A video shot on Sunday by KDFW shows Romo holding up three fingers following a fourth-down incompletion that sealed Dallas' loss to Denver on Sunday. It is an indication he thought there was another down left. Analysis: The tape shows Romo appearing to tell his offensive linemen to get ready for another play, then signaling to refs that the last play was third down. He is told it was fourth down, and then he swears. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Monday he didn't know of any confusion Romo might've had about the number of downs. But on Tuesday, the team issued a statement to try to explain the quarterback's confusion.

All three of his interceptions led to New York touchdowns. Analysis: Romo had never thrown for so few yards in a full game and his passer rating of 29.6 was the second-lowest of his career. It also was a dramatic reversal from the opener, when he showed the poise and patience he supposedly worked on all offseason and didn't have a turnover. "I'm sorry that I wasn't able to play up to the level the rest of the other guys did," Romo said. "I have to get better at the mistakes I made and I will."

Analysis: Like he has throughout training camp, Romo on Tuesday deliberately and consciously tucked the ball into his body with two hands during team drills when under pressure from defenders who aren't allowed to hit him. Early in offseason workouts, Romo started talking about cutting down on risky throws and being quicker to take a sack or throw the ball away. He also said he was serious about getting a better grip on the ball while scrambling.

Analysis: Afterward, Romo said something about losing a football game not being the end of the world. The blogosphere and talk radio were all over him for that and they've hardly let up. But he lost a 21-17 game in the playoffs when the Cowboys were the top seed in the NFC two years ago. "I'm not a fan of Tony Romo, no," Jacobs said. "Keep him in the pocket, he's not that good. . . . His luck will be gone sooner or later. If you were to keep Tony Romo in the pocket he's not that effective."
