Scouting Report
Hickson appears to have the tools to make it in the NBA, but may be a couple of years away from making an impact. He has great size, and is considerably athletic for possessing such a bulky frame. He is also very aggressive and strong around the basket. He finished his first year, averaging 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds and was a unanimous pick for the ACC all-freshman team. While his size and athleticism would make him a great addition on any NBA roster, his overall game is still a little raw. He has the ability to create his own shot with his back to the basket, and can hit the midrange jumper, but has few moves while facing the hoop. This makes him a one-dimensional player, and potentially easy to defend. He is also an ineffective passer and turnover-prone once he gets the ball in difficult situations. His own defensive skills also need some polishing, as he does not use his frame to the best of his ability. Despite his overall unrefined skills, his size and physical play make him an intriguing pick. Hickson has not hired an agent, so he may return to school, and he would likely be a lottery pick if he stayed in college another year. Instead, he is projected to go late in the first round.
