Scouting Report
Returned to Clemson for his senior year after initially saying he would enter NFL draft after last season, a decision that seems likely to cost him. Recorded 1,000-yard seasons in 2006 and '07, but rushed for only 751 yards on 171 carries in 2008 as he shared the workload with C.J. Spiller. That team-oriented nature, however, could help compensate for his reduced numbers last season, and also resulted in him taking less of a pounding on the college level. Considered a great teammate and a leader, and stays out of trouble off the field. Powerfully built and strong, he lacks breakaway speed but relies on determination and strength to pick up yardage, and doesn't fumble much. Has a nose for the end zone, as he ran for 47 touchdowns in four years at Clemson. Durable and tough, and hasn't had injury problems, although he wasn't asked to be a workhorse back in college and never had more than 214 carries in a season. Boasts good agility and feet and can make defenders miss, as well as bowl them over using powerful leg drive. While lacking straight-ahead speed, possesses great vision and is quick to hit holes. Strong pass blocker who excels in picking up the blitz. Caught 51 passes for 441 yards in college, although ability as a receiver went somewhat untested. Might succeed in the NFL playing a similar role to the one he played at Clemson, sharing the load with a smaller, faster back that complements his physical style. Could be picked in the third round.
